Rozi was adopted from the Guilford County Animal Shelter where Jayna volunteered during college. She was Jayna’s very first dog, and the reason Jayna had to move off campus. No dogs in dorms is a pretty strict rule, as it turns out. Rozi was a young adult when rescued back in 2002, so we can only estimate her age at about 12 years old. Irrepressibly sweet despite past abuse, she is not shy about asking, nay demanding, a belly rub from anyone who’ll pet her. The matriarch of our pack, Rozi isn’t expected to work to earn her kibble, and she’s allowed on the couch whenever she likes. Spoiled? Perhaps. But you’d never know it from her loving disposition.
The star of our show, and the beast we chose to be the namesake of our family circus, Stella has enough personality for ten dogs. Our only dog with a ‘tude, Stella is very independent and extremely clever. Dextre adopted Stella from the Georgia Heartland Humane Society when she was still a puppy back in 2007. She is almost 5 years old. A very quick learner, Stella is always eager to work, and loves a good game of tug. Despite her sometimes aloof personality, she can be quite the cuddler, and likes to head to bed early for a snuggle before she goes to sleep.
We got Louise, also from the Georgia Heartland Humane Society, in 2010 because she was in desperate need for a foster family. At the time, we didn’t intend on adopting another dog, still recovering from the loss of our dear Sofi due to epilepsy, but we realized quickly that Louise was a perfect fit for our family, and we just couldn’t give her back. She is almost 2, and full of energy and love. Our most submissive dog by far, Lou needs constant encouragement and reassurance. She is slow to learn new tricks, but always happy to try, and becomes adorably pleased with herself when she masters a new skill. She has a very fun, lively, silly personality and is a delightful companion. Lou is Jayna’s favorite jogging buddy, and is always initiating games and play with the other dogs.
The baby of the group, Adrian was adopted from Homeward Bound Dog Rescue in Dextre’s hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota in May of 2011. She will be 1 in January of 2012. So cute she looks like she stepped right out of a Disney movie, Adrian is the cuddliest of all our girls, often demanding to be held and petted. She’s proving to be just as clever as Stella, and the two are constantly competing to see who can learn the next trick quicker. They clearly brag to each other. Adrian is incredibly agile, and completely fearless. She’s such a nice dog, she charms everyone she meets instantly.
